The National Highways Authority of India and the National Road Safety Board met to discuss concrete steps for enhancing safety across the country’s national highways.

New Delhi — The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Road Safety Board (NRSB) held a joint meeting to examine ways of strengthening safety on India’s national highway network. Representatives from both agencies reviewed existing safety protocols and identified areas where stricter standards and better enforcement could reduce accidents.

During the session, officials emphasized the need for coordinated action, including the up‑gradation of road markings, installation of modern signage, and enhanced monitoring of speed limits. Both bodies agreed to draft a set of recommendations that will be submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for further action.

The meeting reflects a growing focus on road‑safety outcomes as traffic volumes rise on major corridors. NHAI and NRSB pledged to continue their collaboration, with periodic reviews planned to assess the impact of any new measures introduced.

Stakeholders, including state transport departments and highway users, are expected to be consulted as the recommendations move forward, aiming for a measurable decline in highway‑related fatalities and injuries.
