The National Green Tribunal directed Rajasthan to geo‑tag every tree and conduct a city‑wide tree count, while a committee will examine more than 25 proposals to fell trees at Chaumu House in Jaipur.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a directive mandating that every tree in Rajasthan be geo‑tagged, a move aimed at creating a comprehensive digital inventory of the state’s urban and rural greenery.
Under the order, municipal authorities in all Rajasthan districts must carry out a systematic tree count and attach GPS coordinates to each specimen, ensuring real‑time monitoring and preventing illegal felling.
In parallel, the tribunal has tasked a specially formed committee to scrutinise more than 25 applications submitted for cutting trees at the historic Chaumu House in Jaipur, signalling heightened scrutiny of heritage‑site clearances.
State officials have acknowledged the orders and indicated that the geo‑tagging exercise will commence within the next fortnight, with the committee expected to submit its findings to the NGT shortly.
The directives underscore the government's commitment to forest conservation and transparent urban planning, especially in rapidly expanding cities like Jaipur.
