Authorities are preparing a new paragliding launch point near Keylong in Himachal Pradesh, aiming to boost adventure tourism.
Local officials in Himachal Pradesh have begun work on a dedicated paragliding launch area close to the town of Keylong. The project, overseen by the state tourism department, involves clearing a suitable slope, installing safety nets and marking take‑off zones for pilots.
The site is being positioned to take advantage of the region's high‑altitude winds and scenic valleys, offering both domestic and international enthusiasts a new venue for the sport. Authorities expect the facility to complement existing adventure offerings in Lahaul and Spiti and to draw additional visitors during the peak trekking season.
While exact opening dates are yet to be confirmed, officials indicate that the infrastructure will be ready for use in the forthcoming adventure‑tourism season, subject to safety clearances. The development reflects a broader push by the state to diversify its tourism portfolio beyond traditional hill‑station attractions.
Stakeholders, including local businesses, have welcomed the initiative, citing potential economic benefits such as increased demand for lodging, guides and related services. The project also aligns with Himachal Pradesh's strategy to promote sustainable, high‑value tourism activities.
Further updates will be provided as construction progresses and regulatory approvals are secured.
