The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has announced new Inspector Generals of Police for the Kashmir and Jammu zones as part of a sweeping police reshuffle.

Kashmir Observer reports that the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has installed new senior police officers as Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir and Jammu ranges. The appointments come amid a broader reshuffle of the territory's police hierarchy, aimed at strengthening law‑and‑order management across the region.

The decision was communicated by the Lieutenant Governor's office, which said the changes are intended to improve operational efficiency and coordination between the two zones. While the names of the newly appointed IGPs have not been disclosed in the brief, officials confirmed that the officers are senior cadres with extensive experience in the force.

The reshuffle also includes the reassignment of several deputy and senior superintendents, signaling a comprehensive overhaul of the police leadership. Analysts suggest that such moves are typical after periods of heightened security concerns, though the administration has not linked the changes to any specific incident.

The new IGPs are expected to assume charge within the next few days, overseeing crime prevention, counter‑insurgency measures, and community policing initiatives in their respective jurisdictions.
