NEET aspirant commits suicide in Prayagraj, family says she had cleared exam

Police in Prayagraj discovered the body of a young woman in the early hours of the day, identified as a NEET aspirant, who had died from a self‑inflicted gunshot wound. The incident was reported at a residential area of the city and is being treated as a suicide pending further investigation.
The deceased, whose name has not been released, was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and, according to her family, had recently cleared the exam. Her father, a retired engineer, confirmed that she had achieved the required rank and was hopeful about a medical college admission.
Local authorities have secured the scene and are conducting standard procedures, including a forensic examination, to rule out any foul play. The police spokesperson stated that the case will be closed as a suicide if no evidence of external involvement emerges.
The tragedy adds to growing concerns over the mental‑health pressures faced by students competing for limited seats in India's medical education system, prompting calls for stronger counseling support in schools and coaching centres.
