The New Delhi Municipal Corporation has increased its sanitation workforce by half to cope with the surge in waste generated by protests, which now exceeds 300 tonnes.
The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has announced a 50% increase in its sanitation workforce to address the mounting waste problem caused by recent protests.
The decision comes after the city’s municipal waste management units reported that protest-related garbage had surpassed 300 tonnes, a figure that has strained existing disposal and cleanup operations.
NDMC officials said the hiring will begin immediately, with recruitment drives scheduled over the next two weeks. The new staff will be deployed across key protest hotspots and will work alongside existing teams to ensure timely collection and disposal.
A spokesperson for NDMC highlighted that the expansion is part of a broader effort to improve Delhi’s waste management infrastructure and to mitigate health risks associated with large crowds.
