The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has issued a formal notice to Jammu & Kashmir authorities demanding action on the assault and death of a minor tribal girl in Kishtwar district.

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has formally served a notice to the administration of Jammu & Kashmir, seeking a prompt inquiry into the assault and subsequent death of a minor girl belonging to a scheduled tribe in Kishtwar district.

The commission’s notice cites violations of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and calls for a thorough investigation, preservation of evidence, and immediate protective measures for tribal children in the region.

Jammu & Kashmir authorities have been instructed to submit a detailed report on the incident, the steps taken so far, and a plan for further action within the time frame specified by the NCST.

The case has heightened concerns about the safety of tribal minors in the hilly districts of the union territory, prompting civil society groups to demand stricter enforcement of protective laws.

The NCST has affirmed that it will monitor compliance with its directives and may take further legal steps if the response is deemed inadequate.
