A National Conference MLA has formally requested that schools in Jammu and Kashmir shift to a five‑day week, citing the need for a more balanced academic schedule.
The MLA, a member of the National Conference, submitted a proposal to Jammu and Kashmir education authorities urging a shift to a five‑day school week.
He argued that a five‑day schedule would align the region’s schooling with the rest of India, reduce fatigue among students and teachers, and allow better planning of extracurricular activities.
The proposal is currently under review by the state’s education department, which has not yet issued a decision. Officials said they would assess logistical and financial implications before any change.
Education stakeholders, including school principals and parent groups, have been invited to comment, and a meeting is expected in the coming weeks to discuss feasibility.
