NC Calls for BJP to Restore Jammu & Kashmir Statehood Before Assessing Elected Government

The National Conference has urged the Bharatiya Janata Party to reinstate Jammu and Kashmir's statehood before evaluating the performance of the elected government.
NC’s latest statement, published in the Daily Excelsior, calls on the Bharatiya Janata Party to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood before it judges the performance of the elected government.
The party’s demand comes after the 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which had granted special status to the region. Since then, the central government has restructured the state into two union territories.
In its remarks, the National Conference criticised the BJP for ignoring the concerns of Kashmiris and for imposing policies that it says undermine local autonomy.
The call is likely to add pressure on the central leadership as it prepares to evaluate the conduct of the current administration amid growing discontent in the region.
