During Navratri, authorities in Mahesh, Madhya Pradesh have ordered a ban on the sale of meat, fish and eggs from October 11 to October 20.
The district administration of Mahesh in Madhya Pradesh issued an order prohibiting the sale of meat, fish and eggs throughout the Navratri period, effective from October 11 through October 20. The directive applies to all retail outlets, street vendors and wholesale markets within the town.
The ban reflects traditional observances of Navratri, when many devotees refrain from consuming non‑vegetarian food as part of the religious fast. Local officials said the measure aims to support those who observe the fast and to maintain public order during the festival.
Market traders have been instructed to remove non‑vegetarian items from their stalls and to display a notice of the prohibition. Enforcement teams will conduct spot checks, and any violation could result in penalties as per state regulations.
The restriction will be lifted once the Navratri celebrations conclude on October 20, after which normal commercial activity may resume.
