Three villages in the Narayankhed area of Telangana have begun tapping rainwater to mitigate the impact of the El Nino phenomenon, taking action before the state government announces a formal plan.

El Nino, a climatic pattern that brings unusually dry conditions to parts of India, has raised concerns about irrigation and drinking water shortages in the Deccan region. Local leaders say the new rainwater tanks will store runoff from monsoon rains for use during drier months.
The villagers have constructed 50,000‑litre concrete cisterns and lined channels to capture runoff from rooftops and fields. According to the village head, the project was funded through a community‑driven effort and a small grant from a local NGO.
