Tech entrepreneur Nandan Nilekani stated that India is set to become a global leader in the diffusion and delivery of artificial intelligence.
Nandan Nilekani, co‑founder of Infosys and a prominent figure in India’s technology ecosystem, told Tripuratimes that the country is on track to lead the world in how artificial intelligence is diffused and delivered. He highlighted India’s unique combination of a large, English‑speaking talent pool, robust digital infrastructure and supportive government policies as key enablers.
The statement comes as India ramps up its AI strategy, with initiatives ranging from research funding to the creation of AI‑focused startups and public‑private partnerships. Nilekani emphasized that the focus should be on practical, scalable solutions that reach businesses and citizens across the country, rather than merely showcasing cutting‑edge research.
If realised, Nilekani believes India could set global standards for affordable, inclusive AI services, influencing sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education and finance. He cautioned that achieving this leadership will require sustained investment, skill development and ethical governance.
