In a Delhi meeting, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met former Union Minister Shah and Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to urge the central government to advance the Godavari-Cauvery river linking project.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting in Delhi with former Union Minister Shah and Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil on Thursday. The primary agenda was to press the central government to expedite the Godavari-Cauvery river linking project, a long‑proposed water transfer scheme aimed at alleviating water scarcity in the south. Naidu highlighted the project’s potential to boost irrigation, hydropower and drinking water supply for several states.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s office, where the three leaders discussed the technical and financial aspects of the linking plan. While no formal agreements were announced, Naidu reiterated his state’s readiness to collaborate on feasibility studies and infrastructure development.

The Godavari-Cauvery link has been a contentious issue for decades, with environmental groups raising concerns over ecological impacts. Nevertheless, Naidu’s call underscores the urgency felt by several southern states to secure reliable water resources amid recurring droughts.
