Construction of the 78‑km Dimapur‑Kohima railway corridor is 41% finished, with the state government targeting a 2029 opening.

The 78‑kilometre railway line linking Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland is now 41% complete, according to the latest progress report from the Ministry of Railways. Work on the project has been underway since 2019, with the state government and Indian Railways collaborating to bring the corridor to fruition.

The construction phase includes the laying of tracks, building of bridges and tunnels, and installation of signalling systems. As of the latest update, 32 kilometres of track have been laid, and major earthworks are nearing completion.

The railway is expected to boost connectivity in the northeastern region, reduce travel time between the state capital and the district headquarters, and support economic development by linking key commercial hubs.

The project is slated for completion and inauguration in 2029, as per the government's timeline, pending final safety checks and commissioning procedures.
