Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced that Nagaland will introduce a bill on September 1 to grant expanded autonomy to its eastern districts.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio told reporters that the state government will move a legislative proposal on September 1 aimed at providing greater self‑governance to Nagaland's eastern districts. The bill is expected to outline administrative powers, fiscal devolution and local decision‑making mechanisms for the targeted areas. Rio said the move seeks to address long‑standing demands for more responsive governance and to promote balanced development across the state. The proposal will be tabled in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, where it will be debated before any amendment or passage. Stakeholders, including district officials and community leaders, have been consulted during the drafting process, officials added.
