Teachers in Nagaland have appealed for exemption from the Nagaland Teacher Eligibility Test, citing a prior waiver granted for the D.El.Ed qualification.

Nagaland's teaching community has formally requested that the state education department grant them exemption from the Nagaland Teacher Eligibility Test (NTET). The petition, submitted by a coalition of teachers' associations, argues that the recent waiver of the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) requirement should also extend to the NTET requirement.

The D.El.Ed waiver, announced earlier this year, was intended to address a shortage of qualified teachers in remote schools. However, many educators contend that the NTET remains a barrier to immediate deployment, especially for those who have already met the diploma criteria under the waiver.

Authorities in the Department of Education have been approached for a decision, and officials have indicated that the matter is under review. No official response has been released as of now, and teachers are awaiting clarification on whether the exemption will be granted.
