The Nagaland state administration has launched a review of prolonged pension disbursements and other retirement benefits, outlining possible policy changes to speed up payments.

The Nagaland government announced a systematic review of the persistent delays affecting pension and other retirement benefits for its former employees. Officials said the slowdown has caused hardship for thousands of retirees who rely on timely payments for their livelihood.

An internal task force has been set up to audit the pension disbursement process, identify bottlenecks and recommend procedural changes. The review will examine staffing levels in the pension department, the digitisation of records, and the coordination between the finance ministry and district offices.

Preliminary findings suggest that outdated manual procedures and occasional mismatches in beneficiary data are major contributors to the lag. The administration plans to introduce automated clearing systems and a streamlined grievance redressal mechanism within the next few months.

If approved, the proposed reforms aim to reduce the average payout time from several weeks to a few days, restoring confidence among pensioners and aligning Nagaland’s retirement benefits with central government standards.
