The Chief Secretary of Nagaland called for the introduction of industry‑oriented training programmes to reduce the state's skill shortage.
Nagaland's Chief Secretary, in a recent statement, highlighted the growing mismatch between the skills of local youth and the requirements of the state's emerging industries. He urged the education department and training institutes to design and launch courses that are directly aligned with industry needs, emphasizing practical, job‑ready competencies.
The official noted that despite a rise in enrollment in conventional academic streams, employers continue to report a shortage of technically skilled workers. Introducing industry‑oriented curricula, he said, would not only enhance employability but also attract investment by assuring a ready pool of qualified manpower.
To operationalise the recommendation, the Chief Secretary proposed a consultative framework involving industry bodies, vocational colleges, and the state government. He indicated that pilot programmes could be rolled out in sectors such as tourism, agro‑processing, and information technology, with periodic reviews to gauge impact on job creation.
