Nagaland’s cabinet has moved to grant National Highway status to the Wokha–Bokajan road, a decision welcomed by 12 villages that lie along the route. The upgrade aims to improve connectivity and boost local economies.

The Nagaland cabinet has formally requested that the Wokha–Bokajan road be designated as a National Highway, a move that could bring increased funding and better maintenance to the route.

Twelve villages situated along the road have expressed their approval of the proposal, citing the potential for improved transport links and greater access to markets.

The Wokha–Bokajan corridor currently serves as a vital link between the district headquarters of Wokha and the town of Bokajan, facilitating movement of goods and people across the state.

If the National Highway status is granted, the road would receive central government support, which could lead to widening, resurfacing and the installation of safety features.

The cabinet’s decision is expected to be forwarded to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for final approval, after which the project would enter the implementation phase.
