Muzaffarpur Sarpanch Isha... Divakar drowns while bathing after cremation rites

Halimpur Panchayat Sarpanch Isha... Divakar, aged 52, was found dead in the river that flows through Sahebganj in Muzaffarpur district after he went for a bath following a cremation ceremony. According to local reports, the sarpanch had attended the last rites of a woman in his village and later proceeded to the riverbank to cleanse himself.

While bathing, he slipped on the riverbank and was swept away by the current. A bystander immediately jumped into the water in an attempt to rescue him, but both men were unable to reach safety and drowned.

District authorities arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies and have launched a routine inquiry to ascertain the exact circumstances. Officials expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a sitting sarpanch and the rescuer, describing the incident as a tragic accident.

The incident underscores the hazards of bathing in fast‑moving rivers during monsoon months, prompting local leaders to advise residents to exercise caution and avoid solitary swims in such conditions.
