Councillors at Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation’s board meeting on Saturday staged a sit‑in protest, boycotting the municipal commissioner over dilapidated roads, faulty street lights and inadequate sanitation.

The Muzaffarpur Municipal Corporation convened its board meeting on Saturday to review ongoing development projects. The session, intended to assess progress on infrastructure upgrades, quickly turned contentious.

Councillors raised serious concerns about the condition of several city roads, describing them as crumbling and unsafe for commuters. They also highlighted frequent outages and malfunctioning of street lighting, which they said compromised public safety after dark.

In addition to road and lighting issues, the elected representatives pointed to persistent problems in waste collection and drainage, noting clogged drains that exacerbate flooding during monsoon rains.

Frustrated by what they termed administrative inertia, the councillors refused to engage with the municipal commissioner, opting instead to sit on the floor of the meeting hall as a form of protest. The disruption halted the agenda, and no concrete decisions were recorded before the session was adjourned.

Local officials indicated that the protest will be reviewed, and a follow‑up meeting may be scheduled to address the raised grievances.
