A case over loans taken for a mushroom cluster and alleged financial irregularities was heard in the SDO Eastern court in Muzaffarpur on Aug 19, with six livelihood borrowers and both parties presenting their arguments. The next hearing is scheduled for Aug 26.

The SDO Eastern court in Muzaffarpur has taken up a dispute concerning loans obtained under a mushroom‑cluster scheme, which authorities allege involved financial irregularities. The case highlights concerns over the management of agricultural credit programmes in Bihar.

On 19 August, the court conducted the first hearing. Six individuals identified as livelihood borrowers, often referred to locally as "jeevika deedis," appeared alongside representatives of the lending agency. Both sides outlined their positions, with the borrowers contesting the alleged misuse of funds and the lenders defending the loan disbursement process.

The bench adjourned the matter, fixing the next date for 26 August. The continuation of the proceedings will determine whether any corrective action or repayment directives will be issued, potentially affecting the credit flow to small‑scale farmers in the region.

Legal experts note that such cases can set precedents for how state‑sponsored agricultural clusters are monitored, emphasizing the need for transparent accounting and timely grievance redressal.
