The Maharashtra University Teachers Association (MUTA) has publicly objected to the recent amendment of the Private Universities Act, 2019, citing concerns over academic autonomy and regulatory oversight.

According to MUTA, the amendment introduces provisions that may allow greater governmental control over curriculum design, faculty appointments, and fee structures. The association warned that such interference could erode academic standards and limit the freedom of universities to innovate.
