A Muslim teenager was beaten to death in Maharashtra after being accused of eve‑teasing, and a local BJP leader was taken into custody in connection with the case.
Police in Maharashtra say a teenage boy, identified as a Muslim, was assaulted and later died after being accused of eve‑teasing a woman. The incident sparked immediate public outcry, prompting authorities to launch a criminal investigation.
Investigators have linked a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader to the assault, alleging his involvement in orchestrating the mob that attacked the teenager. The leader was arrested on charges of culpable homicide and incitement to violence.
The police have detained several suspects for questioning and are conducting forensic examinations at the scene. Officials emphasized that the case will be pursued under the Indian Penal Code, with no political considerations influencing the probe.
Community leaders have called for calm and urged a thorough, impartial inquiry to ensure justice for the victim and to deter similar mob violence in the future.
