Mumbai to Experience Water Cuts as Maharashtra Enforces Supply Restrictions

The municipal authorities announced scheduled water supply interruptions across Mumbai, part of a broader Maharashtra-wide cut to manage dwindling reserves.

Mumbai's civic administration has issued a notice that water supply will be curtailed in several zones of the city starting early next week. The cuts are synchronized with a state‑wide water rationing plan announced by the Maharashtra Water Resources Department to address falling reservoir levels.

State officials say that the monsoon season this year delivered below‑average rainfall, leaving major reservoirs such as Vaitarna and Bhatsa at critically low capacities. To prevent a total depletion, the government has ordered phased reductions in supply, targeting non‑essential consumption and encouraging residents to conserve water.

The scheduled interruptions will affect residential and commercial consumers in the western and central suburbs for up to four hours daily, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Authorities have urged households to store water in advance, limit laundry and bathing, and report any illegal connections.

The water department has also announced the deployment of additional tankers to vulnerable localities and promised to review the schedule if reservoir levels improve. Citizens are advised to stay updated through official channels and cooperate with the conservation drive.
