The IPL franchise Mumbai Indians announced the end of its association with former Sri Lanka star Mahela Jayawardene, who was serving as the team's batting coach.
The Mumbai Indians franchise confirmed that its partnership with former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene has been terminated. Jayawardene, who joined the team as batting coach for the 2024 IPL season, will no longer be part of the coaching staff.
Jayawardene, a 2021 ICC Hall of Fame inductee and former captain of Sri Lanka, was hired to bring his extensive international experience to the Mumbai side's batting unit. During his brief tenure, he worked closely with senior and emerging players, focusing on technique and game‑plan development.
The team did not disclose specific reasons for the separation, stating only that the decision was mutual and that the franchise will seek a new specialist to oversee batting preparations ahead of the upcoming season.
