The Mumbai municipal authority, in collaboration with the NGO Sukoon Nilaya, will establish seven free palliative‑care centres to serve terminally ill patients across the city.
Mumbai's civic administration announced a joint initiative with the non‑governmental organization Sukoon Nilaya to set up seven free palliative‑care centres across the metropolis. The centres will be operated under a public‑private partnership model, aiming to provide comprehensive end‑of‑life support without charge to patients and families.
The facilities are expected to offer medical, nursing and psychosocial services tailored for individuals with life‑limiting illnesses. By centralising expertise and resources, the project seeks to alleviate the burden on hospitals and improve the quality of care for the terminally ill.
Officials said the rollout will begin later this year, with each centre strategically located to maximise accessibility for underserved neighbourhoods. The collaboration underscores Mumbai's commitment to expanding its health‑care safety net for vulnerable populations.
