MP Petrol Pumps to Reject UPI for Bills Over ₹2,000 from Oct 16

The state government of Madhya Pradesh announced that starting 16 October, all 4,700 petrol pumps in the state will not accept UPI payments for any transaction above ₹2,000. The decision follows a complaint from the association of petrol pump owners, who claim that the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) will add roughly ₹17,400 to the monthly expenses of each pump. The policy is aimed at reducing the financial burden on fuel retailers. Pump owners will continue to accept other modes of payment such as cash, debit and credit cards for higher value transactions. The move is expected to affect thousands of commuters who rely on UPI for quick fuel payments.
