MP Petrol Pumps to Drop UPI for Bills Above Rs 2,000 from Oct 16

From October 16, 4700 petrol pumps across Madhya Pradesh will refuse UPI payments for transactions exceeding ₹2,000, as the state association cites additional monthly costs of ₹17,400 per pump.
The state association of petrol pumps in Madhya Pradesh has announced that, starting October 16, all 4,700 pumps will no longer accept UPI payments for transactions above ₹2,000.
The decision follows a calculation that the mandatory merchant discount rate (MDR) and GST on digital payments will add roughly ₹17,400 to the monthly operating costs of each pump.
Customers who wish to refuel with a bill exceeding the threshold will need to pay in cash or via other non‑UPI methods such as card or net banking.
The move is expected to affect thousands of commuters and small businesses that rely on digital payments at fuel stations.
The association has urged pump owners to prepare for the change and to inform customers well in advance.
