An EOW investigation in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, has uncovered a scam where a Patwari allegedly collected lakhs in land tax from property owners using fake challans, pocketing the funds instead of depositing them in the government treasury. Approximately six lakh rupees are believed to have been embezzled over a six-month period.
Authorities in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district have initiated action against a Patwari for allegedly perpetrating a significant financial fraud. The official is accused of collecting substantial amounts of land tax from property owners by issuing fabricated payment challans. Instead of depositing the collected revenue into the government exchequer, the accused Patwari is reported to have embezzled the funds for personal gain.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has taken up the investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings suggest that the scam has been ongoing for approximately six months. During this period, the alleged fraudulent activity has resulted in a loss of around six lakh rupees to the state treasury. The EOW is working to ascertain the full extent of the fraud and identify all individuals involved.
