The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has dispatched a verification team to Ujjain after MP Anil Firozia raised concerns over the Ujjain‑Garoth and Ujjain‑Badnawar four‑lane highway projects, each slated at a combined cost of roughly Rs 2,600 crore. The projects have faced repeated setbacks, including three collapses of sections within the past seven months, prompting scrutiny of construction quality and financial management.
Firozia’s complaint was escalated to the central ministry, which ordered an on‑site review. The team, comprising senior engineers and officials, arrived in Ujjain to assess the structural integrity of the works, verify expenditure records, and interview contractors.
Authorities said the probe will determine whether the repeated failures stem from design flaws, substandard materials, or irregularities in fund allocation. Findings will be reported to the ministry and could lead to corrective action or further legal inquiry.
