A 36‑year‑old man was electrocuted while turning on a motor pump in Ragunathpur village, Gaya district, Bihar. His 62‑year‑old mother, who rushed to save him, was also killed on the spot.

In Ragunathpur village, part of the Fatehpur police area in Gaya district of Bihar, a tragic electrocution occurred while a motor pump was being switched on in a field. The 36‑year‑old son suffered a fatal electric shock as soon as the pump was activated.
His 62‑year‑old mother, hearing his cries, ran to the site in an attempt to rescue him. She too came into contact with the live current and collapsed, succumbing to the shock at the scene.
Local police arrived promptly, cordoned off the area and confirmed that both victims died on the spot. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the source of the electrical supply and to assess whether safety protocols were ignored. Officials have urged farmers and rural households to ensure proper grounding and to avoid handling electrical equipment with wet hands or in damp conditions.
The incident underscores the persistent risk of electrocution in agricultural settings, prompting calls for increased awareness and stricter enforcement of electrical safety standards in the region.
