Political leader Moonlight Pariat has formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, a move that adds momentum to the evolving contest in Meghalaya as the state gears up for the 2028 legislative elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party announced that Moonlight Pariat, a prominent regional figure, has officially become a party member. The induction was confirmed through a statement released by the state BJP office, noting that Pariat will work closely with the party’s local leadership.
Pariat’s entry comes at a time when Meghalaya’s political landscape is intensifying ahead of the 2028 state assembly polls. Regional parties and independent candidates have been jockeying for position, and the BJP is seeking to broaden its foothold in the northeastern state.
Party officials said that Pariat’s experience and local connections are expected to strengthen the BJP’s outreach among voters, particularly in districts where the party has previously struggled to gain traction. The move is being watched closely as the election calendar draws nearer, with analysts suggesting it could alter coalition dynamics in the state.
