The Mohali Municipal Council announced plans to build a dedicated cowshed aimed at reducing the number of stray animals roaming the city’s streets.
The Mohali Municipal Council has approved a project to construct a municipal cowshed that will house stray cattle and other livestock currently seen on city roads. Officials said the facility will provide a safe shelter, regular feeding and veterinary care, thereby curbing the nuisance and safety hazards caused by wandering animals.
The council plans to allocate municipal funds for the construction, with the site to be identified within the next few weeks. The project is expected to be completed within a year, after which stray animals will be gradually transferred to the new premises.
Local residents and animal welfare groups have welcomed the move, noting that a dedicated cowshed can improve public hygiene, reduce traffic disruptions, and ensure better health monitoring for the animals.
The initiative aligns with broader municipal efforts to manage stray livestock in Punjab’s rapidly urbanising areas, aiming for a cleaner and safer urban environment.
