The Mohali fire department reports 77 vacant posts, raising alarms over fire safety during upcoming festivals.
The Mohali fire department has announced that 77 positions remain unfilled, a number that has alarmed local authorities as the city prepares for a busy festival season.
The shortage of firefighters is expected to strain the department’s ability to respond swiftly to incidents, potentially increasing the risk of uncontrolled fires during celebrations that involve fireworks and large crowds.
Fire services officials said they are actively recruiting but face delays in approvals and training, which have contributed to the backlog.
In response, the municipal corporation has pledged additional funding and is exploring partnerships with volunteer groups to bolster emergency response capabilities.
