The Mizoram government announced a collaborative effort with churches, the Young Mizo Association and local traders to enforce stricter fireworks regulations.
Mizoram's state administration has launched a coordinated campaign to tighten control over the sale and use of fireworks, especially ahead of upcoming festivals. The initiative seeks to curb illegal fireworks that have previously caused injuries and property damage across the state.
Under the plan, major churches will be asked to disseminate safety guidelines to their congregations, while the Young Mizo Association (YMA) will assist in monitoring markets and reporting violations. Local traders dealing in fireworks will be registered, trained on compliance standards, and required to display approved safety notices.
Officials said the combined effort aims to reduce accidents, protect public health and ensure that festive celebrations remain safe. Enforcement will involve regular inspections, penalties for non‑compliant sellers and community awareness drives conducted jointly by religious bodies, YMA volunteers and merchant groups.
