Teachers in Mizoram called off an eight‑day strike after the state government pledged to address their demands.

Teachers across Mizoram halted classes for eight days to demand better wages and working conditions. The strike began on 15 March and disrupted the academic calendar of several schools. In response, the state government announced a meeting with the teachers’ union and committed to reviewing the salary structure and infrastructure issues. Following the assurance, the teachers agreed to suspend the agitation and resume teaching from 23 March.

The decision was welcomed by parents and students who had been affected by the prolonged strike. Education officials noted that the suspension would help restore normalcy in schools and prevent further academic setbacks. The teachers’ union expressed satisfaction with the government's willingness to engage and said they would continue to monitor the implementation of the promised measures.

The government is expected to set up a committee to examine the teachers’ concerns and propose concrete steps within the next fortnight. Meanwhile, the Mizoram Education Department has urged schools to resume classes and maintain discipline during the transition period.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by educators in Mizoram and underscores the importance of dialogue between teachers and authorities to ensure a stable learning environment.
