Mizoram Leader Hrahmo Calls for Uniform Civil Code to Protect Mizo Women

Mizoram activist Hrahmo has publicly called on the state government to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), arguing that it would provide stronger legal protection for Mizo women.
He highlighted cases where personal laws have left women vulnerable in matters of marriage, divorce and inheritance, and said a uniform legal framework would ensure equal rights across the state.
The demand comes amid growing debates nationwide about the UCC’s role in promoting gender justice, though the Mizoram administration has not yet responded officially.
If adopted, the code could reshape family law in the state, aligning it with the central government’s broader agenda while addressing local concerns about women’s safety and empowerment.
