Mizoram Discovers Two New Frog Species, One Camouflaged in Plain Sight

Researchers working in the forests of Mizoram have announced the discovery of two frog species that have not been documented before. The first species, named *Kurixalus mizoramensis*, is a small, bright green frog that inhabits the high-altitude wetlands of the state. The second species, *Rhacophorus obscurus*, is notable for its striking resemblance to the common *Rhacophorus malabaricus*, earning the nickname "the hidden frog" because it blends seamlessly into its surroundings.

The findings were published in the journal *Herpetologica* and were made possible by a collaborative effort between the Mizoram Forest Department and the Indian Institute of Science. The researchers used a combination of acoustic monitoring and genetic analysis to confirm that the two species are distinct from all known frogs in the region.
