Mizoram Chakma Council Urges Governor to Resolve Salary Crisis and Halted Projects

✍️ India Today NE 🗓 27 Jul 2026, 11:36 PM 👁 2

The Chakma community council in Mizoram has formally requested the state governor to intervene in a salary crisis affecting its members and to address stalled development projects.

The Chakma community, one of Mizoram’s largest ethnic groups, has raised concerns over unpaid salaries for council members and staff.
The council claims that wages due since last year have not been disbursed, leading to financial hardship among its representatives.
In addition to the salary issue, several development projects—such as road construction and school upgrades—have stalled due to lack of funding and administrative delays.
The council has formally submitted a letter to the Governor of Mizoram, urging immediate intervention to resolve the salary arrears and to expedite the pending projects.
Officials have yet to respond, but the council’s appeal highlights growing frustration within the community.
