The Miss Tamusyo 2026 beauty pageant has been announced as a platform to promote and safeguard the Gurung community’s language, traditions and cultural heritage in Sikkim.
The cultural organization behind the Miss Tamusyo 2026 pageant said the event will serve as a dedicated platform for the Gurung community of Sikkim to showcase its distinct identity. Organisers highlighted that the competition will go beyond conventional beauty criteria, integrating elements of Gurung language, folklore and traditional attire.
Eligibility is limited to women of Gurung descent residing in the state, and participants will be evaluated on their knowledge of Gurung customs, as well as their ability to represent the community on a public stage. The program is expected to include performances of traditional music, dance and craft exhibitions alongside the final crowning ceremony.
By foregrounding cultural education within a popular pageant format, the initiative aims to counter the gradual erosion of Gurung heritage among younger generations. Community leaders hope that the visibility generated by Miss Tamusyo 2026 will encourage renewed interest in preserving oral histories and indigenous practices.
The inaugural edition is slated for later this year, with the final event planned to take place in Gangtok. Details on registration and the judging panel will be released through local media channels in the coming weeks.
