From October 1, milk sellers in Indore will charge ₹65 per litre, while farmer groups are urging a minimum price of ₹70.

Indore’s dairy market is set to implement a new price schedule for milk starting 1 October. Sellers have announced a fixed rate of ₹65 per litre, a figure that reflects recent cost pressures in collection and distribution.

Farmers’ associations, however, argue that the proposed rate does not cover the rising input costs they face, such as feed, electricity and transportation. They are collectively demanding a floor price of at least ₹70 per litre to sustain their livelihoods.

The disagreement is being monitored by the Madhya Pradesh Department of Animal Husbandry, which has urged both parties to negotiate a mutually acceptable price before the new tariff takes effect.

If a consensus is not reached, the market could see supply disruptions or informal sales at higher rates, potentially affecting urban consumers in Indore and surrounding areas.
