The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has warned television broadcasters against airing material deemed anti‑national, stoking heated debates or using AI‑generated content irresponsibly.

New Delhi – The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) issued an advisory to all television news and current‑affairs channels, urging them to refrain from broadcasting content that could be classified as anti‑national. The notice highlighted the risk of inflaming public sentiment through heated debates that lack factual grounding.

The ministry also warned broadcasters about the growing misuse of artificial intelligence tools to create misleading or fabricated video and audio clips. It reminded channels that existing laws, including the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, empower the government to take action against violations.

MIB officials said non‑compliance could attract penalties, suspension of licences or other regulatory measures. The advisory calls for stricter editorial oversight and verification before airing any material that might threaten national cohesion or public order.

The directive comes amid increasing concerns over misinformation spread through digital platforms and the ease with which AI‑generated content can be weaponised. Broadcasters have been asked to report any breaches to the ministry promptly.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Indian broadcasting while respecting freedom of expression, urging the industry to balance robust debate with responsible reporting.
