The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of an upcoming wet spell across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, expecting increased rainfall in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released an advisory on Monday indicating that a fresh wet spell is likely to affect the entire Jammu and Kashmir region in the next few days. Meteorologists point to a low-pressure system moving eastward from the western Himalayas, which is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall across the valleys and highland areas.
The forecast suggests that the heaviest showers will occur between Thursday and Saturday, with rain accumulations ranging from 30 to 70 millimetres in several districts. Temperatures are also expected to dip slightly, especially in the higher altitudes, as cloud cover increases.
Local authorities have been urged to prepare for possible waterlogging and landslide risks, particularly in flood‑prone zones such as the Jhelum and Chenab river basins. Emergency services are on standby, and residents are advised to stay updated with real‑time alerts from the IMD and local disaster management teams.
Travelers are cautioned that road conditions may deteriorate, especially on mountain passes, and that flight schedules to Srinagar and Jammu could face disruptions. The department recommends that people limit outdoor activities during the peak of the rainfall period.
