The Meghalaya government announced that 9,767 school dropouts will be given a second opportunity to sit for the Class X board examination.
Meghalaya’s education ministry announced that 9,767 students who left school before completing Class X will be permitted to sit for the board examination a second time. The decision is part of a state‑wide effort to reduce dropout rates and improve literacy.
Under the scheme, eligible dropouts will be enrolled in a short‑term remedial programme and will be allowed to appear for the Class X exam without having to repeat the entire secondary curriculum. The government will cover registration fees and provide study material.
Officials said the move aims to give marginalized learners a chance to obtain a formal qualification, which could enhance their prospects for higher education and employment.
