A school‑level programme in Meghalaya took students inside the District Collector’s office, offering a practical glimpse of administrative functions.

Meghalaya’s education department organised a field‑trip titled “A Day at DC Office” that brought a group of school students into the District Collector’s headquarters. The initiative aimed to move beyond textbook theory and expose young learners to the day‑to‑day workings of local governance, including revenue collection, law‑and‑order coordination and public service delivery.
During the visit, officials briefed the students on the hierarchy of the district administration, demonstrated how citizen grievances are logged, and showed real‑time data dashboards used for planning. Interactive sessions allowed the pupils to ask questions about budgeting, disaster management and the role of elected representatives.
Teachers accompanying the delegation noted that the hands‑on exposure helped demystify bureaucracy and encouraged civic responsibility among the participants. The program is part of a broader effort by the state government to foster experiential learning and strengthen the link between schools and public institutions.
Feedback from the District Collector’s office highlighted the enthusiasm of the students and the willingness of officials to continue such outreach activities in other districts.
The event underscores Meghalaya’s push to integrate practical governance education into the school curriculum, preparing students for informed citizenship.
