Meghalaya Assembly Speaker has formally highlighted delays in the new assembly building and pending scholarship approvals, urging the central government for swift action.

The speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has written to the Union government, flagging two pressing concerns that affect the state's legislative functioning and its students.

First, the speaker pointed out that the construction of a new assembly building, promised several years ago, remains incomplete, forcing lawmakers to operate from temporary premises that lack adequate facilities.

Second, the speaker highlighted that several scholarship schemes approved by the Centre for Meghalaya students have not been disbursed, leaving many beneficiaries in financial uncertainty.

In the correspondence, the speaker urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education to expedite both the building project and the release of scholarship funds, emphasizing the impact on governance and youth development.

The Union government has not yet issued a formal response, but officials indicated that the matters would be reviewed in upcoming inter‑governmental meetings.
