The state of Meghalaya has enacted a ban on parking heavy vehicles on its highways after a Supreme Court order. The move aims to improve traffic flow and safety on the roads.
The Meghalaya government announced today that heavy vehicles will no longer be allowed to park on state highways, following a directive from the Supreme Court. The ban is expected to reduce congestion and prevent accidents caused by stalled trucks and buses. Enforcement will be carried out by the state police and traffic authorities, who will issue fines to violators.
The Supreme Court had previously ruled that such parking practices posed a serious risk to public safety and demanded immediate action. The state has pledged to set up monitoring checkpoints and to provide alternative parking facilities for commercial transport operators.
