Authorities in Shillong have announced zero tolerance for recent vandalism, stating that the Meghalaya Police Disciplinary Action (MPDA) could be invoked against perpetrators.
Shillong police officials said they will not show any leniency toward individuals involved in recent acts of vandalism across the city. The statement emphasized that the Meghalaya Police Disciplinary Action (MPDA) framework may be activated to impose stringent penalties on offenders.
The warning follows a series of incidents in which public property, including street furniture and government signage, was damaged. Law enforcement officials have urged the public to cooperate with investigations and refrain from further destructive behavior.
Police spokesperson Prestone, speaking to local media, reiterated that the MPDA provisions empower authorities to take swift disciplinary measures, including fines and possible custodial sentences, to deter future vandalism.
The department has also announced increased patrolling in vulnerable areas and a call for community vigilance to protect civic assets. Any person found violating the law will face the full force of the MPDA provisions, officials said.
