The Public Health Engineering Minister of Meghalaya urged coordinated efforts across departments to achieve the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility.
Shillong, Meghalaya – The state's Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister highlighted the importance of synchronized action among government agencies to fulfill the goals set under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). In a recent statement, the minister underscored that achieving universal safe drinking water access requires joint planning, resource sharing, and regular monitoring.
The minister noted that the JJM, a flagship central government scheme, aims to provide piped water to every rural household by 2024. While Meghalaya has made progress in expanding water infrastructure, the official said further gains depend on seamless coordination between the PHE department, local bodies, and other stakeholders.
To operationalise this approach, the minister announced the formation of an inter‑departmental task force that will track project milestones, address bottlenecks, and ensure timely fund utilisation. The call for collective effort reflects the state's commitment to meeting national water security targets and improving public health outcomes.
